 Got Questions?

  • If you would like to support our work you can become a member of the BBRT. Membership costs £30 for 12-months. Members will receive a copy of the BBRT Newsletter twice a year – keeping you up-to-date with our projects, appeals, and any other special issues. Please consider supporting us in this way, so that we will be able to continue to support sustainable farming practises using the British Breeds which were created to thrive in this, their natural environment.

  • Preserving rare and vulnerable breeds of farm animals is a costly and complex process. For example, storing 400 straws of genetic material costs £4.50 per month. To increase numbers of these animals, we need to produce embryos and implant them into surrogate animals, which costs around £250 per embryo. Additionally, collecting precious genetic material from an original population 100% Ayrshire bull costs £1,500, and purchasing an original population Jersey heifer for pedigree breeding comes with the same price tag. As you can see, preserving these unique breeds requires significant investment. With your help, we can continue our vital work and safeguard the future of these important animals.

  • Your gift will not be used to pay staff wages because the BBRT has no paid staff with trustees and volunteers sharing the workload. Your gift, however small, will instead make a direct impact in BBRT planned projects (including DNA sampling, embryo transfer, etc. whenever appropriate) aimed at saving these pure heritage breed populations. You will be fully kept up to date via progress reports on our website and you will hopefully have opportunities to visit farms or open days when these unique breed animals can be seen and enjoyed.
